Jiyugaoka! near my home. it's nice suburban town isn't it? Along with neighboring university town Ookayama, you can find many cafe, boulangerie and patisserie I think one of the best taste in the world.

European- named Sweets shop in Jiyu-gaoka is MT. BLANC モンブラン、the oldest in kind, and their name-sake cake had been concocted by this sweet shop in early 1930 or 1920. The cake モンブランis a Swiss original cake but jiu-gaoka's cake "モンブラン” uses a cooked chestnut on top of the cake in lieu of some other material used for the European Mt. Blanc cake. You are recommended to try out very first at Mt. Blanc then to the younger sweet shops.

The growth of the sweet shops in the town began quite long time ago. Even this Mont Blanc's success, the shop's original proprietor refused to branch out even there were many demands. I don't know if they finally branched out. There is an old Japanese sweets shop (forgot the name but turtle is their make)along the Toyoko line a few hundred north from the Mt. Blanc location.

I have mixed feeling after this video. The "European neighborhood" showed at the beginning looks nice, but also feels clearly fake. In Europe we have some real magic they cannot reproduce. On the other side, I don't understand why we European have given up and accepted littering and dirtiness (in most countries, at least), while as you can see in this video Japanese cities are so tidy and clean and feels so nice to walk around.
