In this video we experience bullet train sushi in Tokyo, Japan for the first time. We had already tried conveyor belt sushi in Osaka, where we could grab plates of sushi as they travelled down, but this was our first time ordering exactly the sushi we wanted and having it fly out and stop right in front of us. It was really easy for us to order the sushi with the touch screen menus and aside from just nigiri, maki and sashimi they also had an extensive noodle and soup section which we really appreciated. The prices of everything was very reasonable and we found the quality for what we paid offered excellent value. All in all we tried the following:

1) Complimentary match green tea (self service)
2) Tuna and salmon nigiri rolls
3) Grilled salmon rolls
4) Salted sardine sushi
5) Shrimp sushi
6) Salmon nigiri with lots of mayo (not our favorite)
7) Udon soup
8) Miso soup
9) Salmon rolls with chopped chives and chili oil

There are quite a few bullet train sushi restaurants in Tokyo, but we went to "Uobei Shibuya Dogenzaka" (魚べい) which is located in Shibuya neighborhood of Tokyo, Japan:

🚄 Tokyo’s BULLET TRAIN SUSHI Experience! 🍣 Kaiten-zushi at Top Speed in Shibuya 🥢🍜 | Conveyor Belt Sushi + Udon! 🇯🇵

🎬 Introduction: What is Bullet Train Sushi?
Welcome to a whole new world of Japanese dining! In this video, we take you inside Uobei in Shibuya, Tokyo, where the traditional conveyor belt sushi (Kaiten-zushi - 回転寿司) concept gets a high-tech twist. Here, sushi is delivered at lightning speed via a "bullet train" right to your seat! With a digital ordering system, massive menu, and sushi flying out in seconds, this is the ultimate Japan food experience. Grab your chopsticks and join us on this sushi adventure!

👫 Special Guests & Setting
We’re joined by our friend Rob for this epic meal!

We arrive at Uobei, a famous bullet train sushi restaurant in Shibuya, Tokyo, totally soaked from the rain—but hungry and excited.

Each table has a digital touch-screen, photos for easy ordering, plus classic sushi bar extras: green tea powder, chopsticks, napkins, ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce bowls.

🍵 Getting Started: Green Tea & Ordering
Sam demonstrates the traditional way to prepare matcha green tea at your table—just add powder, pour hot water, stir, and sip!

We dive into the tablet menu, with plenty of sushi classics and creative options, perfect for tourists or locals.

🍣 Sushi On Demand: How Bullet Train Sushi Works
Order via the touchscreen and within seconds, sushi arrives—flying down the rails and stopping right in front of you!

First orders: Tuna and salmon, grilled salmon with crispy skin, all fresh and flavorful.

Sushi etiquette: Dip the fish (not the rice) in soy sauce. But we admit, sometimes it’s tricky!

🔥 Tasting Different Sushi & Sashimi
Rob’s selection: Salted sardine sushi, shrimp with spicy salsa & onions, salmon with mayo and onions.

Honest reviews:

Sardine: Super salty and juicy, unique and with a strong aftertaste.

Shrimp with spicy salsa: Sweet and spicy, loaded with onions, a real flavor bomb.

Salmon with mayo: Maybe a bit too much mayo—sometimes less is more!

So many options: Multiple salmon and shrimp varieties, plus endless combos for every taste.

🍜 More Than Sushi: Udon, Ramen, and Miso Soup
Discovery: Uobei isn’t just about sushi! There’s a menu section for ramen and udon.

Sam tries the Soft-Boiled Egg & Mentaiko Udon—a generous portion topped with tempura bits, a soft egg, chives, and mysterious orange paste (mentaiko, spicy cod roe).

Audrey opts for classic miso soup, always a comforting side.

🎰 Sushi Roulette: Will You Win?
Fun surprise: Order side dishes and play "Sushi Roulette" for a chance to win a prize. (Spoiler: Still waiting for a win! Does anyone ever win?!)

🔥 Final Sushi Rounds: Spicy Salmon, Stacks of Plates
Sam finishes with a final plate: Salmon topped with chives and spicy chili oil—perfect heat without the need for wasabi!

The aftermath: Stacks of colorful plates and bowls, the universal sign of a successful Japanese sushi meal.

🎉 First Impressions & Final Thoughts
The Bullet Train Sushi (Uobei) experience is fun, affordable, and ultra-efficient.

Massive variety: While there aren’t tons of sushi rolls, there’s a great selection of nigiri, sides, noodles, and soups.

Super popular with locals and tourists—expect a lively atmosphere!

Hey guys! We hope you're all having a great weekend. We just wanted to clarify a few things regarding our Japan series. We've had some comments since we started our Friday India series wondering if our series from Japan is now over. Actually, it really has only just begun! We'll be having Japan content come out Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday each and every week until mid-April. What you have to look forward to is content from Tokyo until late January. We have more street food videos and day-trips from Tokyo coming out soon. After Tokyo we explore more of rural Japan visiting Nikko, Takayama and Shirakawa-go where we have episodes trying Hida beef, staying in a Ryokan and enjoying nature from late January until March. To finish off our Japan series we'll be heading to Kyoto with episodes coming out for most of March and then we'll have a special series at the very end where we have studio videos covering topics such as travel tips for Japan, Japanese convenience stores and Japanese toilets just to name a few. Also from reading comments there has been confusion about whether or not we're currently still in Japan. Our trip was actually from May 21st until July 19th so we haven't been in Japan for quite some time. Our style of travel has changed from being on the road for most of the year to dedicated trips where will film a lot more while we're on the ground but then edit our series afterwards. I hope this clears things up and please stay tuned for a LOT more Japan content on our channel.

"You're not supposed to dip the rice in the soy sauce"

What happens if you do it anyway? You get beheaded?

@ellenarelkin1238 2023.08.09 15:22

Why does Japan has sushi rules it is kinda silly and people can do whatever they want!😍😍😍😍

@thomseto1071 2023.02.28 03:13

it’s the sushi nazis…”don’t dip the rice in soy sauce”…”don’t mix the wasabi with the soy sauce”…gag

@Peacefl64 2022.03.11 19:51

"Mystery orange paste" = mentaiko roe

@andyball2313 2021.08.04 17:58

I think you are supposed to add the hot water from the tap to your udon noodles. Stir a minute, then eat. if it comes out on bullet train prepared, it will slosh out. The paste was the soup flavoring, and would turn into a broth, when water added.

Did the trains snake around and turn corners, or just come straight out from kitchen, then go straight back to kitchen empty.

Also, is there a train to take away dirty plates, or did a worker bus the dishes? It would be nice if you could press a button to summon a dirty plate train.

@riytan428lovely 2019.07.14 06:58

オレンジのペーストは明太子です♡

@SydneyKong 2019.07.05 02:22

the orange stuff in the udon noodles was fish eggs or fish egg paste

@MonkeyQueen39 2019.04.10 22:17

I have watched many sushi videos and about 95% of them mix the wasabi and soy sauce.....lol.

Do you guys find these automated restaurants or eateries without waiters refreshing from the constant interaction with waiters or waitresses or somewhat impersonal? or perhaps the novelty of it all is an experience in and of itself

@StellarionPrime 2019.03.18 22:15

how about shrimp sushi with mayo ? must be kinda like shrimp cocktail then...!?

@Dani.Raykova 2019.03.04 08:41
