What is Satsuma cut glass?
Using crystal glass, colored glass is fused to the surface of colorless glass by 1 mm or more.
The colored glass is then deeply cut and carefully polished, and the product is called "Satsuma cut glass."
Satsuma cut glass is characterized by the gradation, or "blurring," that occurs between the clear glass and the colored glass because of the thickness and light color of the covered colored glass.
Satsuma Vidoro
Satsuma Vidoro Kogei has a workshop in Satsuma Town, a town rich in nature located in the northern part of Kagoshima Prefecture.
Satsuma faceted glass was made from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period.
Today, various designs of Satsuma cut glass are produced as a traditional craft of Kagoshima Prefecture.
Company is one of the few workshops that make Satsuma cut glass from the raw glass material.
Craftsmen are passing down the tradition of beautiful Satsuma cut glass with their skill and techniques, but what we feel attractive about it now is "the value that comes from using it."
The cut, pattern, color, and brilliance of each piece can be appreciated only by using it.
Enjoying the glass, carefully washing and polishing it, and even putting it away will surely be a rich and joyful time.
We create Satsuma cut glassware that is both a reissue of a bygone era and a modern lifestyle.
